Actor Prakashraj to Play LTTE Chief?

prakashrajMultilingual actor Prakash Raj says he has been offered the role of LTTE chief Vellupillai Prabhakaran in a Tamil film and that he will be doing it.“I would like to perform the role according to the dictates of the script and requirement of the director. I will not do any homework or prepare for this role in details as I think spontaneity will provide better results than anything,” said the actor at an interactive session.

“Acting career is like a journey to me. Acting has been a process of learning to me. You learn many things while interacting with many people. I think any actor will gain confidence and maturity with experience. Working with different directors and the best of the actors make you determined to give the best shot,” he said. Prakash Raj also worked with Bollywood megastar Amithabh Bachchan in two Hindi films – “Khakee” and “Zamanat“ and is all praise for him.

“He is truly a legend. He is extremely patient. He used to call me ‘Kalaakar’ and I enjoyed working with him. Despite his stature, he doesn’t question the decision of a director. I saw him agreeing for the eighth take for director Raj Kumar Santhoshi while shooting for ‘Khakee‘. I was really impressed with his professionalism,” he said.

His film “Mozhi“ won many awards and was also a box office success. “I have made ten Tamil films so far. I would like to take up projects which have a good story. I want to encourage younger talents who want to prove their mettle with their stronger scripts with novelty elements. I’m happy that young directors like Priya, Guhan and Radha Mohan are established names today,” said Prakash Raj.

Brain injury????

Scientists at the Sahlgrenska Academy in Sweden say that the brain may be injured by the noise produced by the firing of anti-tank weapons or a howitzer.

While a number of reports in the past have suggested that the brain seems to be sensitive to the blast, the current study focused on how whether the occupational standards for the highest levels of blast exposure were valid enough to avoid brain injuries.

brain

They found that the maximal peak levels of the blast were unexpectedly high in the brain, i.e. that skin and bone appeared to protect the brain poorly.

According to them, their findings showed that the degree of transmission of a pressure wave from air or water to the brain depends on the dominating frequencies in the frequency spectrum of the noise; low frequencies are transmitted considerably better than high frequencies.

Upon the microscopic examination of the brain, the researchers observed that the blast from certain weapons produces small haemorrhages (bleeding) in the brain tissue and the meninges (lining of the brain).

They further observed that blast exposure leads to the development of brain edema, i.e. increased fluid content, a finding that they were later able to support this finding with other measurements.

The researchers said that the results of their study were in agreement with findings in the brains of soldiers who had been injured or died after being exposed to explosions in wars, from WW1 to the war in Iraq.

Based on their observations, the team came to the conclusion that the maximal peak levels of blast generated by the firing of certain weapons led to a small but measurable effect on the brains of pigs and rats.

The study also showed that this effect on the brain becomes worse with increasing maximal peak blast levels.

The results poses the question as to whether exposure to even lower levels of blast than previous thought injurious might be contributing to the large numbers of mild traumatic brain injuries in American military personnel.

Ancient Footprints reveals earliest signs of modern feet

footprintAncient footprints discovered in northern Kenya are believed to be the oldest sign that early humans had feet like ours. The footprints were found in two sedimentary layers, 1.5 million years old, near Ileret in the eastern African nation.

“These rarest of impressions yielded information about soft tissue form and structure not normally accessible in fossilized bones. The Ileret footprints constitute the oldest evidence of an essentially modern human-like foot anatomy,” according to a team of anthropologists who detailed the discovery in the February 27 issue of the journal Science.

According to the authors of the journal article, there were three footprint trails in the upper sediment layer. Five meters deeper, another sediment surface preserved one trail of two prints and a single, smaller print, likely from a child.

“In these specimens, the big toe is parallel to the other toes, unlike that of apes where it is separated in a grasping configuration useful in the trees. The footprints show a pronounced human-like arch and short toes, typically associated with an upright bipedal stance,” the scientists said. The size, spacing and depth of the impressions were the basis of estimates of weight, stride and gait, all found to be within the range of modern humans.

The size and other characteristics of the prints led the authors to conclude the prints belonged to the hominid Homo ergaster, or early Homo erectus. This is the first hominid to have had the same body proportions with longer legs and shorter arms called as modern Homo sapiens.

Obama to abolish limits on Cuba?

obamaBarack Obama, the reputed president of the United States of America, has decided to fulfill a campaign promise and allow Cuban Americans and Cuban emigres to freely visit and send money to their families.A White House official confirmed the administration’s intentions to lift the restrictions, but said the measure was not a new policy statement and was not imminent.

The administration has conveyed that our policy towards Cuba is being reviewed and the president has stated that there’s a sense that restrictions on family visits and cash remittances should be lifted and the focus remains on the need for democratic reforms and human rights in Cuba.

The removal of limits on family travel and cash remittances would allow Cubans living in the United States to travel freely to the island, instead of once a year as at present. It would also remove the ceiling of $1,200 per person in cash remittances to needy family members in Cuba.

This is a good humanitarian move that honors Cuban Americans’ right to visit and aid their relatives as they see fit but it creates one class of Americans who can travel to Cuba at will, so it will add to the momentum in Congress to lift restrictions on all other Americans, who have a right to travel too. The move was probably meant to signal a new attitude toward both Cuba and other Latin American countries that have pressed Washington to end a trade embargo that has sought to isolate Havana for more than four decades.

Skype set to launch Mobile IPhone Applications!!!

iphoneSkype is set to launch a mobile application for the iPhone, one for BlackBerry devices in May.The iPhone application will be announced on Tuesday during a press conference at the CTIA Wireless 2009 trade show in Las Vegas.
Skype, which is owned by eBay, has been a noticeable latecomer to the App Store, which features several other Voice Over Internet Protocol applications. One of those, Fring, uses Skype’s API. People can make free Skype-user-to-Skype-user calls, or use SkypeOut, a paid service where people can call landlines and mobiles via Skype. The iPhone Skype application can only be used over Wi-Fi and not over the cellular networks, a condition demanded by operators so as to not steal voice revenue.
Skype does not yet have a native application for BlackBerry devices, although third-party developers again have utilized Skype’s API. One of those services is IM+ for Skype, which enables chat, free calls to Skype users and SkypeOut. Skype did not provide the application’s May launch date.Skype’s application for the Windows Mobile OS has been available for several years.

US to send forces to Afghan

Afghan troopsUS president Obama is expected to send an additional 4,000 troops to train Afghan forces as part of review of policy on Afghanistan and Pakistan.
The new strategy includes recommendations to counter a persistent Taliban and al-Qaeda campaign that spans the two countries’ border.

US officials have said success in Afghanistan is impossible without tackling Taliban enclaves in Pakistan, whose government is beset by political turmoil.Nabi Misdaq, an Afghanistan analyst in Washington, told Al Jazeera he hoped Obama would not go for a military solution to the conflict, citing a series of US air raids that have caused a number of civilian casualties.

Obama has said previously that the US is losing the war in Afghanistan and the new policy is central top his administration’s efforts to turn the conflict around, giving more responsibility to the Afghan government itself. Obama is to define the objectives of the plan as eliminating the threat from al-Qaeda to undermine or topple US-backed elected governments or to launch attacks on the US, its interests and allies.

The strategy is to take a regional approach focusing on counter-terrorism, economic development and offer economic aid to help stabilise Pakistan, where the Taliban has a number of strongholds, officials told the Reuters news agency. The problems were highlighted by Afghanistan’s intelligence chief, who accused Pakistan’s spy agency ISI of helping Taliban fighters carry out attacks in his country.

Cool Features of IE8!

ie8Microsoft launched its new browser in the market one week ago. The New browser is Internet Explorer8 with new cool features and is greatly advanced considering the previous version of Internet Explorer.

Web browsers were once so mundane that Microsoft took five years to upgrade IE6, introduced with Windows XP in 2001, to IE7. Millions still use IE6. Meanwhile, Firefox, introduced in late 2004, has racked up significant market share and popularized features, such as tab browsing, which lets you quickly click back to several open Web pages.

Internet Explorer 8, gets people to the information they need, fast, and provides protection that no other browser can match. This new version of Internet Explorer was a significant improvement on previous editions. The safety features in IE8 are very good. It can spot dubious websites and alert you if you’re about to fall foul of, let’s say, a phishing website, because it has a constantly updating list of dodgy sites. * Microsoft supplies a version of IE for Windows Mobile devices that can be downloaded freely.

* A separate Web interface for Xbox 360.E8

* “Web slices” let you quickly call up selected content from a Web page

* “Accelerators” make it easier to cut and paste text from one page and insert it on another * Extremely fast to browse through the information

* Reliable software that can be easily downloaded

* Good safety features

* Helps to spot dubious tricky websites

* User Friendly interface.

Is Split Personality a Reality?

split1I am sure that everyone living in this world is aware of this term Split Personality. But my question is this split personality just a myth or a reality? I was really curious to know more about the cause and effect of this split personality. Yesterday I had a deep discussion with my friend’s uncle who is a pshycatrist in order to know about this issue in depth.

The discusion started. He explained me that this is a Mental Disorder which can defined as a Dissociative Identity Disorder in which a single person exhibit  multiple distinct identities or personalities each with its own pattern of perceiving and interacting with the environment.  This state of mental disorder can also be called as Multiple Personality Disorder.

He also explained me the statistics which revealed that Possible cases of split personality have been reported in the medical literature since the early 19th century, and the condition was formally defined in the first years of the 20th.

Then the discussion went more deep. I asked him about the causes for it. He told that the causes of dissociative identity disorder have not been identified, but are theoretically linked with the interaction of overwhelming stress,  insufficient childhood nurturing, and an innate ability to dissociate memories or experiences from consciousness.

Then i was curious to know how will that individual who is affected by the mental disorder will feel and also about the symptoms. He replied that the individual affected by this disease will suffer from Head ache, Body pain, Depression, Amnesia etc. The individual will lose his memory from time to time and his behaviour and attitude will reflect those of other persons but at that time he will be totally unaware of what is happening around him. I feel that this state is possibly the worst part.

He also added that such an individual must be free of stress and must have peace of mind. Also he must undergo pshycotherapy for treatment. It is better to treat at the early stage of this mind disorder. If not it will take some time to enable him to get rid of this disorder.

I thanked him for helping me to know more about split personality. Thus the discussion came to an end. The clock ticked 10 pm and we dispersed from the coffee shop. I feel that this is really a strange disease related to mind which is dangerous. Thinking about that i made my way to house.

India Seals ODI series against Newzealand!

viruIndia, having lost the toss, went on to chase a target of 281 runs in 47 overs in the 4th ODI at seddon park in Hamilton.Virender Sehwag, the man who dominated today went on to score an unbeatable  125 runs, hammered the Kiwi bowlers all over the park. Sehwag was totally unstoppable in his approach and the newzealand bowlers could hardly do anything about it. Viru made a history as he went on to become the first Indian to reach fastest century by passing Azhar’ s record. This magical knock from Viru, has enabled India to not only win the match by 10 wickets (D/L method) but also to grab the series in style as expected by the Indian cricket fans all over the globe.

Even though there were constant interruptions due to rain which revised the target by reducing the overs to play, it didnot affect sehwag and his pure flow in any aspect as he went on to demolish the home team. India clinch the series 3-0 so far with one match left to be played on saturday. Hope India will look forward to make the series 4-0 with lights of sachin hopefully to recover and play the last ODI game.

India won Newzealand by a comfortable margin in all three matches except for the one that was spoiled entirely by the rain, even that could have been easily grabbed by the Indian team. So India now clinch the ODI series against Newzealand and seals the hope of Kiwi team in this series.

I feel that the present Indian team under the leadership of Dhoni has set some extremely high standards for them that enabled them to shape as a great team that threatens to dominate the world cricket. India has won their last 5 ODI series that includes some high quality teams like Pakistan,Australia, Srilanka, England and now Newzealand. Congratulations to Indian Cricket Team for their splendid show in ODI series against Newzealand.
